The Research Grant Hungary program (HUN-REN) has awarded a five-year $2.6 million grant to Richard Pestell, PhD, MD, PhD, FACP, FRACP, MBA, distinguished professor of translational medical research at the Blumberg Institute, for a project investigating “Novel approaches for targeting cyclin D1 in CDKi-resistant cancer.”
Elected as a member of Academia Europaea (AE) last year, Dr. Pestell is one of four prominent scientists recently chosen for major funding by the HUN-REN program (read more here).
Three of those projects, including Dr. Pestell’s, will be hosted by the HUN-REN Office of Supported Research Groups in Budapest.
Dr. Pestell says he will be collaborating with Blumberg Institute colleagues to “bring together the strengths of HUN-REN and the Blumberg Institute.”
Cancer genetics is the focus of Dr. Pestell’s work in Budapest, particularly chromosomal instability where the cell undergoes genomic rearrangement.
